La Force holiday gite near Carcassonne - Gite near Canal du Midi, France

This is a traditional Lauragais farmhouse, converted to provide the owner’s house and three holiday cottages. Set in open countryside with stunning views across rolling farmland to the Pyrenees, the cottage, Montsegur, faces South, and there is plenty of space to enjoy the sun in the spacious, informal gardens. It has a large, well equipped dining/kitchen, opening into a comfortable living area with a wood-burning stove. Upstairs are 3 good-sized bedrooms (1 double, 2 twin). There is a bathroom, and a shower room.

This is an excellent base for discovering the area. There are 2 World Heritage Sites on our doorstep, - the medieval Cite at Carcassonne, and the Canal du Midi, which provides a direct link all the way from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, and within reach are the mountains and the Mediterranean coastline. There is a choice of historic market towns and villages to discover. They have many festivals to enliven the summer months. Cathar history runs deep across the region and you can visit their remote and spectacular castles. Languedoc Roussillon is the largest wine producing area of France and there are some delicious wines to taste! Medieval circular villages, built for defence, are a feature of the area.We are 5 minutes walk away from the "circulade" of La Force, with its population of 200 people.

On the ground floor, Montsegur has a roomy and cheerful living room furnished with comfortable settees. There is a well equipped kitchen/dining room, and also a downstairs shower room with wc. An open staircase leads to 3 well equipped bedrooms on the first floor, 1 with a double bed and 2 rooms with 2 single beds each. Each bedroom has panoramic views over open countryside. There is a modern bath/shower and wc room upstairs. The cottage is equipped with TV, DVD/CD player, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, cooker, patio furniture etc. The lounge area has a wood burning stove and there are wall-mounted electric radiators in the bedrooms for winter use.

Outside Area:Outside the cottage is its own terrace with outdoor table and chairs to enjoy those open air meals. The large shared garden covers 1 hectare in all, and there are many shady areas to relax in, either under a pergola or in the shade of trees, enjoying the wide views. There is also a large barbecue for outdoor cooking.
