Brittany gite holiday rentals in converted Breton - Corseul self catering gites

La Julerie provides a perfect setting for a peaceful holiday, away from the noise and pressures of normal life. Ideal for families who want to meet up to share and enjoy Brittany’s charms in peaceful surroundings. We have converted the farm longhouse and stables at La Julerie into 4 Gîtes. Each cottage has been individually re-created in the Breton style and we have taken great care to ensure that all the beautiful original timbers are exposed throughout, but at the same time have equipped each cottage with fitted kitchen, comfortable chairs and sofas & French/English TV, DVD players, wooden patio tables & chairs & barbeque equipment. The barn has been converted into a large games room with a table tennis table, and adjoining the barn we have installed a heated indoor swimming pool, but one with its own glass retractable cover, so in hot weather it is converted to an open air pool. Surrounding the pool there is an enclosed patio with lounging seats for our guests. In 2007 we created a boules court in the garden area near the swimming pool complex, again a very popular addition. La Julerie slopes gently to the south and is a natural suntrap. As there are no other properties on the road to La Julerie and with space in our yard many guests bring their children’s cycles to use around La Julerie. We have now listed over 56 types of birds and there are many swallows flying around the buildings throughout the summer; they still nest in some of the buildings. At night time you are more likely to hear owls than cars. La Vieille Ferme is, as its name applies the old farmhouse. La Vieille Ferme has the largest ground-floor area of any of our Gites at La Julerie and is a “must” when looking for a group booking as it can easily seat 24 people together around the tables. La Vieille Ferme has a patios both in front and to the rear of the cottage, its lawned garden area is alongside the cottage; the rest of the 1/2 hectare of garden area is for use for all.

Views:As La Julerie is at the end of a road, and with only quiet country roads around, it is peaceful in its quiet rural setting- yet less than 2km to the town.

La Julerie is only 18km from the coast which offers a large number of safe sandy beaches, which is what all children adore; several also have sailing, and all types of surfing schools –wind, kite and sand yachts; just what the teenagers and more adventurous adults enjoy. There are many offshore islands well worth a visit at low tide, for the whole family to enjoy. La Julerie is only 10km from the historic town of Dinan where you can see many medieval buildings, or enjoy their weekly market or wander down a cobbled street to the port and enjoy lunch alongside the river. The world famous Mont St Michel is less than an hour’s drive from La Julerie as is the capital of Brittany- Rennes where you will find museums featuring the history of this ancient part of France. St Malo and Dinard face each other across the estuary of the River Rance; St Malo is a busy port and a centre for yachting but also a hive of activity as a popular tourist centre, whilst its neighbour across the river hosts the annual British Film Festival each September.

Rental notes: A 10% spring Discount is currently being offered against our quoted tariff on all full weeks booked and taken before 30 June. Apart from during July and August we happily accept bookings of less than 7 days and are flexible on arrival and departure days. If all 4 gites are booked by one party for a minimum of a week (apart from high season) we offer a 10% discount; we also offer a similar discount when only 2 guests rent Les Etables aux Hirondelles –our smallest Gite at La Julerie which sleeps 4 people(but still spacious at over 84 sq. mts of floor space) As a member of Brittany Ferries “Owners Abroad Club” I can also assist all of our guests in obtaining a 10% discount when travelling with this ferry company. Whilst our tariff is quoted in Euros, payment can be made in either Euros or sterling. We obtain the fine commercial rates daily from CanonFX and use these rates to convert Euros to Sterling. Guests are asked to choose between accepting the rate quoted when confirming their bookings, either to take that being quoted that day, or opt for the rate which is quoted at the start of the week when their final payment becomes due which is 10 weeks prior to arrival date. The same rate is used for both the deposit and final payment. Credit cards are not accepted, all payments should be made by bank transfer, either to our UK bank or French bank, depending on currency being used for payment.

La Julerie was a disused Longere (farmhouse & adjoining farm buildings) when we bought it in 2000; our son Tim, who now lives across the yard with his family, and who did all of the building conversion work decided, when converting the old farmhouse –La Vieille Ferme - to knock the existing 2 ground-floor rooms into 1 large salon (there weren’t any rooms upstairs!), and created the largest room in any of the 4 gites at La Julerie. Quite often large family groups will book all 4 of the gites together for a family holiday (there are beds for 24 guests +cots) and whilst each part of the family can retreat to their own gite, they can also all sit and wine and dine together; there is even room for the children to get down from the table and play games in the salon area or watch TV or play the with the DVD. Our son also decided that none of the gites would have separate kitchens; he didn’t want mum left alone whilst the rest were enjoying themselves, therefore all the gites are open plan downstairs with corner kitchen so nobody gets left out! Great care has been taken to ensure that all of the old beams are exposed and the walls are finished in a traditional Breton render, there is a tiled floor throughout the ground-floor and wooden floors upstairs. Entrance is through a small hall, besides the large salon and kitchen area there is also a washroom on this floor with basin and toilet. As you go upstairs you will see all of the exposed ancient roof timbers. This gite has 3 bedrooms, one has a double bed and another 2 single beds whilst there are bunk beds in the 3rd, and room for a cot. 1 bathroom has bath & basin whilst the other shower, basin and toilet; there is also a separate toilet on this floor.

Outside Area:La Vieille Ferme has a patios to its front and rear; it also has a terraced lawn area alongside the property with plenty of space to lay out in the sun. Whilst all 4 gites are in a line, each one is separated in the front by honeysuckle covered trellis and to the rear with wooden fencing. Beyond your own patio and lawned area, the gardens open up to the larger lawned area which is shared with all other guests; we have plenty of hedges and shrubs to give privacy and improve the views, but plenty of room for children to play. We converted an old barn into a games room with table tennis table, a seating area, 2 shower/changing rooms and a toilet as, having reduced the size of the barn, we built a swimming pool where part of it had been. For security the pool can only be accessed through the games room, the other 3 sides of it are surrounded by a wall creating a lovely sheltered sun lounging area. The pool is heated from April till after the New Year holiday and it has its own glass retractable cover, it is opened in fine weather. It is over 9 metres long and has a level bottom at a depth of 1.65m which makes it ideal for parents with infants as they can stand anywhere. There is now a brick pathway going the whole way past the front doors of the gites to the games room. How many children forget to bring footwear for around their gite, no longer any problem! In the gardens near the pool there is a boules court, and we try and have flowers blooming most of the year. Lydiane, our French daughter in law has her own hair salon across the yard from the gites and will take care of the hair of any of our guests during their stay.
