Le Portail Bleu - beautifully presented 17th and 18th century Breton stone cottages surrounded by trees. Quality fittings and furnishing ensure comfortable family friendly accommodation combined with traditional features, which together with our in-ground heated swimming pool and children's play area make us the ideal place for a rural family gite holiday from which to explore Southern Brittany and the Loire valley with it's many vineyards and chateaux. The 3 self catering gites are approached via a separate, gated, entrance drive lined with fruit trees, leading to their parking area. The enclosed gardens with grand old oak trees giving a parkland feel are surrounded by gently rolling countryside- why not barbecue on the patio, relax by the heated swimming pool or explore this varied and interesting region. Le Portail Bleu invites you to relax in the French countryside, in traditional and comfortable child friendly gite accommodation, with family oriented on-site facilities and a "Green Way" cycle path almost on our doorstop for family friendly cycling in complete safety. We are resident on-site, and take pride in our provision of clean and well maintained self-catering French holiday cottage accommodation.

Le Portail Bleu is situated on the south Brittany border with the Loire Atlantique, in an area known as the "Porte de Bretagne", a line once fortified and defended against the rest of France by the Breton people, at the medieval châteaux of Fougeres, Vitre and Chateaubriant, all worth a visit with their associated parks and gardens. To the south and west lies the area known as the Garden of France, the Loire with it's vineyards, western coast beaches and later-period, grand, Renaissance Châteaux, which are possible to visit as a day-out trip. Indeed, previous guests have commented on the amount of sight-seeing at close hand and not being able to visit everything during their stay. Weekly markets at Bain de Bretagne, Guerche-de-Bretagne and Chateaubriant offer a variety of local produce and for shop-a-holics the centres of Rennes and Nantes are a must! Within our gites we provide a wealth of information on things to do and see and provide "Recommended Days Out" sheets which focus on family days out to sights within an hours drive, the Parc de Prehistoire, Les Naudieres, Terra Botanica, La Gacilly and lots more. Weather here is influenced by the micro-climate of the Loire-Atlantique region, caused by salt beds on the west coast, giving consistantly warmer weather than most parts of North and Western Brittany, by several degrees on average.

Available at no extra charge; cot with mattress, high chairs, stair gates, potties, baby baths although cot bedding is not provided as differing age babies and toddlers have different needs and are more likely to sleep well with familiar bedding items. Balance is due 8 weeks prior to arrival along with a returnable security deposit against damages.

Each cottage provides comfortable living accommodation on the ground floor includng a fully fitted cottage kitchen with either electric or gas oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer & washing machine, plus dining area. The living room areas include UK Satellite TV, DVD players and CD systems. Upstairs we provide a flexible layout of bedrooms; in Le Noyer: a double bedroom; a twin-bedded room and a single room; plus a spacious bathroom with WC; in Le Lierre: a double bedroom, a twin-bedded room, a landing area with cot plus a spacious shower room with WC; and in La Feuille Verte we have a galleried landing leading to a vaulted ceilinged double bedroom with adjoining children's twin bedded room, with shower room facilities on the ground floor. Each cottage retains original, traditional features, such as exposed stone walls, exposed beams and floor joists and in Le Lierre and La Feuille Verte there are huge mantled fireplaces. We aim to provide you with clean family friendly accommodation suitable for families with toddlers and babies and to help keep your packing to a minimum for your youngest members of the family we provide, for all cottages, stair gates (top and bottom of the stairs), high chairs, cots with mattresses, baby baths and potties and a selection of toys and books, not to mention CBeebies for those early morning risers you may need to keep quiet while you have your cup of coffee in bed!

Outside Area:Each cottage has a terrace with BBQ, picnic table and chairs and parasol plus their own cottage-specific exterior bicycle racks. Each cottage has access to our fenced, alarmed in-ground heated swimming pool, gardens and children's play area. The play area includes a wooden castle zip wire between oak trees, trampoline, swings and slide, and a selection of outdoor games, footballs etc. We have a 7 acre field you are welcome to explore or play in, and goats and chickens to make friends with!
