Saint-aulaye holiday cottage rental Dordogne - Aquitaine Perigordian farmhouse

La Gilardie is an attractive, single storey house (about 300 years old) for 4 to 5 persons, which forms part of the owners’ renovated Perigordian farmhouse. It is set in the beautiful Forêt de la Double in a small hamlet, surrounded by woods, fields and lakes. Because the property is on level ground with no steps, it is wheelchair friendly, but not fully equipped for all needs. It is a place to relax, to enjoy the sounds and sights of a fairly untamed countryside, to watch the buzzards circle the sky or the hen harriers hunt across the fields. The large, 1 acre garden with its mature trees, lawns and natural pond is shared with the owners. It is a paradise for butterflies, birds and all sorts of wild animals. There is plenty of shade for an afternoon's siesta and enough space for your children to kick a ball about.

The nearest small town is St. Aulaye with its 13th century Chateau Bastide, about 3 km away. There you can find a supermarket, post office, bank, doctor, dentist etc. An hour’s drive or less could take you to the old market towns of Riberac, Angouleme or Perigueux, Bordeaux is about one and a half hours away. The house is surrounded by interesting old villages, most of them have wonderful roman churches, some of them very well preserved and looked after. Aubeterre, one of the most beautiful villages in France (8 km) with its monolithic church. The old market towns of Chalais (15 km), Perigueux (45 km), Angouleme (50 km) or Riberac (21 km). Brantome: a beautiful town on the Dronne with an old abbey and nearby caves.

Rental notes: Balance of 75% 4 weeks before arrival. Final cleaning is included, and also energy is included.

There are 2 bedrooms, one with a king-sized bed, the other with 2 singles and a comfortable put-you-up for a possible 5th person. The large, beamed living room is comfortably furnished with a 3-piece suite, coffee table, dining table and chairs. The cottage has a TV (French), VCR and Hi-Fi. There is a good selection of CDs and videos. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a washing machine.

Outside Area:The cottage has a private terrace with BBQ, garden furniture, a swing, an electrically operated sun roof. There are plenty of loungers and reclining chairs on the terrace and in the small private garden. The large 1acre garden is shared with the owners.
