Vila Borboleta ('Butterfly Villa') is a spacious architect designed house standing in its own grounds. It has superb views of the sea and the Monchique Mountains. The prettily tiled pool is surrounded by brick paving and the garden has a colourful display of hibiscus, oleanders and Bougainvillaea. This villa is comfortably furnished with country antiques and traditional Portuguese furniture.

The house stands on top of a low hill in a rural area with several small-holdings and vineyards nearby. It is quiet but not isolated. There are pleasant walks in the countryside and along the coast. Our maid, Lucilia, comes to clean the villa five times a week and changes the linen and towels once a week. She is happy to do personal laundry and ironing for our guests in return for a small tip. There are many pleasant walks, along the coast or inland, with good habitat for butterflies, birds and a profusion of beautiful spring flowers. Benagil beach is within walking distance and other fine beaches are a short drive away. Interesting trips can be made to Silves, the Monchique mountains, Cape St Vincent and the west coast. Fish is a speciality in local restaurants and prices are very reasonable.
