Cavanet self catering stone farmhouse - Dordogne holiday farmhouse in Aquitaine

Our property is part of a very small hamlet near Argentat S/Dordogne with 4 permanent residents, they are all very friendly, welcoming and enjoy having a chat. The road passing our house only serves 3 or 4 houses and turns into an unmade track leading to a lovely little stream. There are so many wonderful walks and bicycle rides right on our doorstep in all directions. It is a great area for wildlife, ideal for bird watching. The two of us over the last 16 years have lovingly restored the house. It has been a labour of love to get back to granite walls and oak beams. In the living room there is a large fireplace with a wood-burning stove. All modernisation has been carried out so as not to detract from the character of this 280-year-old house. The layout of the house allows complete privacy for two couples, or parents & children, it has proved very successful. The furniture is mostly French and of the region, with plenty of interesting ornaments and decorations as the house has been restored to suit our future retirement. It is very homely. The fields in front of the house and to the right of the barn are also ours; our neighbour cuts the grass for hay and keeps it tidy. We guarantee you will enjoy spending some time in our cottage; it is situated in a beautiful area still very unspoilt and full of surprises.

Family, friends and holidaymakers have all enjoyed wonderful holidays here in Cavanet. The area is so rich in history and local activities there is something for everyone. It is also a great place to relax. There are numerous lakes. The largest, offering the most facilities is near La Roquebrou where there are safe beaches with all water sports catered for, and not crowded. If you care to be a little more adventurous there is canoeing down the Dordogne from Argentat or nearby campsites. The visits of historic monuments and villages such as Rocamadour, Padirac, Collonge la Rouge, St Cere, Beaulieu and Puy Marie to name a few. The nearest full day to be had is in the "Tour de Merle" 4 miles away, guided tours of ruins are in English (on certain days only), jousting etc. They also do an impressive son et lumière. Our nearest bakery / general stores are in Goulles 4 miles away or Sescles 5 miles away. They both bake delicious bread. They open every day except Sunday afternoon and Monday, although in the season they open Mondays for general stores. Check for yourself. There is a good selection of restaurants in Argentat to suit all pockets and pallets. The St Jacques, the Sablier du temps and the Fouillade are most recomended. Our nearest restaurant is Le Teulet, situated 4 miles away from our house on the road to Aurillac. The food can be very good, depending on your taste. Super new swimming pool free to customers.

Open plan living area: • Fully equipped kitchen: gas cooker, microwave oven, refrigerator, electric kettle, coffee maker, blender / food processor etc. • Dining area: farmhouse table (it came with the house), large fireplace, two armchairs, original oak beams and granite walls. Two double bedrooms: • Bedroom one: three steps up lead from the main downstairs room into bedroom. There is a separate dressing room which can be used as a child’s room (it has a single bed) and en suite shower room with loo. • Bedroom two: on the first floor (has traditional boat bed), with an en suite bathroom with loo and a comfortable sitting room with a double sofa bed.

Outside Area:The courtyard is private with ample car parking, there is a patio with table, chairs and granite BBQ "pour diner à la fraiche!"
