Carcassonne holiday farmhouse - self catering Cathar farmhouse, France

Recently renovated farmhouse situated in a small hamlet of five other houses deep in Cathar country in the haute vallèe of the Languedoc. For those of you who have read the Da Vinci Code you will know that Rennes-le-Chateau featured in the book, is very close and is a wonderfully mystic site not to be missed. Within an hours drive of the house are various ski slopes, the coast, Spain and Andorra.

The region around Hameau de Mouiche is rich in history. The area is known as the Quercorb with Chalabre as its capital and has seen many events throughout the ages. La Dame Blanche (The White Lady) lived in Puivert Castle in the 14 century and it was she who ordered the river draining into the great lake to be re-directed, this flooded both Mirepoix and Chalabre and the unfortunate lady drowned. Rennes-Le-Chateau is famous for the priest Sauniere who suddenly came into great riches during the 1800's and gave splendid parties for the rich and famous. Rumour has it that he either found evidence linking Mary Magdalene to this area or that he found Cathar gold. Either way the site is featured in Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and the murdered concierge in the Louvre bears the same name.

Together with the house is a small studio which sleeps two (not available on its own). This has a bed-sitting room and small kitchen together with a shower room and toilet. The main house can sleep 8 either 4 double rooms or 3 double and one twin depending on your party. It has two bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and one large family bathroom with walk-in shower. The kitchen is fully fitted with microwave, American style fridge with integral ice maker and dishwasher. It is gas centrally heated and a wood burning stove is available for winter lets. A downstairs utility area houses another shower, toilet and washing machine. English TV, DVD, home cinema and sound system are also available.

Outside Area:The garden is just over one acre and there are fields and woods belonging to the house for walks and picnics. The summer kitchen has a Weber barbecue, open fire and is perfect for al fresco meals.
