Alvor is a quaint piscatorial village, with narrow, cobbled streets, a harbour and a long sandy beach with various newly built huts where you can enjoy a meal or sit for a lazy afternoon sipping a cold drink while taking in the sea views.
The village has one main supermarket, called Alisuper and various smaller ones spread throughout Alvor. The locals tend to buy a lot of their produce from the fish and vegetable market in the village, where you can get everything fresh.
There is a vast choice when it comes to eating out. Prices are very reasonable compared to the UK and you may opt for trying Portuguese restaurants with traditional food, or the many English ran pubs and bars that offer a taste of home during your holiday. Some pubs also offer live music, mainly during the summer months.
Every second Tuesday of the month, Alvor has a “gypsy market” with lots of stalls, selling mainly clothes and shoes.
