Moncontour is a quiet, peaceful village, which contains a watersports lake which has water skiing, a beach, childrens play area, mini golf and an auberge with a bar. The area is a wellknown watersports laking with skiing facilities advertised on the Vienne tourist board website. In the village you can find a bank, a bar/pizzeria, a boulangerie, hairdressers, beautician and church - all of which are within walking distance of Le Grand Saule Chambre d'Hote. Also to be found are a doctors and dentist. The surrounding area is famous for its beautiful forest and riverside walks which are full of various wildlife including deer, birds of prey and herons. The region also offers fishing, walking, cycling, horseriding, golf and go-karting, as well as numerous other activities. And aerodromes can be found on the outskirts of the nearby towns of Loudun and Thouars. We are located central between the Loire Valley Chateaux and Poitiers famous themepark 'Futuroscope' - just 45 minutes. We are also ideally located for travelling across France - just 4.5 hours from the channel ports and around 6 hours from the mediterrean.

There is a large beamed sitting room with beautiful double patio windows and a log burner for those cosy winter evenings. There is also books, games and a piano. Le Grand Saule Chambre d'Hote offers a very elegant and spacious family room ensuite(with power shower) and will accommodate five easily with sitting room, it has double bed and single bed ( possible further two single beds/ cot), A spacious and elegant double room with double bed which has room for further single bed or cot. The room is ensuite - the bathroom being part tiled and which includes a beautiful old roll top bath, as well as the comfort of a shower Both are beautiful beamed rooms with large sunny windows. The family room has a huge beautiful fireplace and the double room an ancient charentaise fireplace. Every effort has been made to offer comfort whilst retaining the character of the rooms. Beautiful white cotton sheets and embroidered pillowcases add that taste of luxury to the rooms.

Outside Area:Le Grand Saule is set in its own private and secure grounds amongst mature trees including an ancient willow tree - from which the house gets its name 'Le Grand Saule'. You can relax on the patio amongst the roses and herbs, or at the rear of the garden, which backs on to the meandering River Dive. Listen to the birds or watch the resident moor hen, spot a heron or two taking off with a fishermans catch, or you might even be lucky enough to see the young deer playing and gamboling from field to field In the garden can be found sun loungers, garden table, bench and chairs with sun parasol. New for 2011 we have a barbeque area alongside the beautiful river dive - the area is sheltered and offers respite from the mid day sun. Here you can find tables and chairs to seat 12 and a barbeque. In the rear of the garden can be found an original, medieval ball from a catapult used during the seige of the local ancient donjon. Bicycles are available to take a leisurely bike ride to explore the local neighbourhood. Ideal for fishing, rambling, bird and nature watching. The surrounding area is set amongst fields of sunflowers, melons and vineyards.
