Mirepeisset bed and breakfast - Delightful Languedoc-Roussillon B & B, France

Situated in the heart of a quiet Medieval village, La Souqueto forms part of the old remparts (the house's entrance is on the ancient 'chemin de ronde' - or the old sentinel's walkway) yet two steps from nature, lake and river (for safe swimming) and the Canal du Midi. The house is tastefully restored and decorated and offers great food (it is a part-time cookery school), a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and plenty of artistic inspiration. There is a roofterrace with loungers for private relaxation, an outdoor patio, a large, bright artists' studio and several libraries at guests' disposal... We can accommodate up to 12 adults in 5 double bedrooms (3 doubles and 2 twins). There are 3 bathrooms and towels & toiletries are provided. Evening meals are available for groups of 6 or more.

Mirepeisset is a small medieval village which literally means 'the place to see fish' - due to the proximity of rivers and canals. The village surrounded by vineyards and waterways: the Rigole (feeder canal to the Canal du Midi) is directly behind the house, as is the river Cesse with its reservoir La Garenne - both provide safe swimming. The Canal du Midi (which 'crosses' the river Cesse at the Pont Minervoise) is a deiightful 15 minute stroll away - perfect for walking, cycling and boating (bicycles and boats for hire locally). The village (Mirepeisset) two restaurants - La Taverna (almost nextdoor) and La Garenne (overlooking the river). It also has tennis courts, petanque and horseriding facilities, as well as waterside picnic areas. The area is known primarily for its Roman history and Cathar strongholds but there are plenty of other areas of cultural interest to keep you busy. The pretty village of Le Somail is within 30 minutes walking and nearby Salleles.
