It is a quiet location, surrounded by the turquoise-blue sea of the Laguna, where you find the most wonderful beaches on the island. Away from the coast, there are several small islands, one of which is the famous Ile Aux Aigrettes, a nature reservation, which nature lovers should most definitely visit; here you are brought closer to the original forest of Mauritius. Not far from Pointe d’Esny is the historical town of Mahebourg. This is where the Dutch first set foot on the island in the 15th century, and the island’s first harbour was built here. You can visit different museums and historical memorials in Mahebourg. There are diverse supermarkets and shops around Pointe d’Esny, and Mahebourg offers a typical street market with a rich selection from clothes to souvenirs, and from vegetables to fresh fish. There are also several restaurants there, where the best Mauritian cuisine is served.
