The Istria peninsular has often been called the "Tuscany" of Croatia. The area is steeped in history, with Pula having a large Roman Amphitheatre, Forum, and cobbled pedestrian shopping alleys and market.
All over the area are ancient picuresque hill-top villages. Vineyards abound, and the local wine is very drinkable, and complements the excellent local food.
