Normandy self catering cottage - Holiday cottage near Mont Saint Michel

On the Normandy-Brittany border, 'Les Petites Ondes' is a traditional granite cottage located on the edge of Pontorson, ten kilometres from the famous medieval site of Mont Saint Michel. Renovated and furnished to a very high standard, this cosy self-catering holiday cottage sleeping 2-4 people has a lovely view over farmland to the south. The lively market town of Pontorson, the gateway to Mont Saint Michel, offers all amenities (supermarkets, restaurants and weekly open-air markets, as well as a train station, cycle rental, pharmacies and local shops) and the town centre with its mediaeval church is only an ten-minute walk from the cottage. Avranches, a Norman town 30 kilometres to the northeast, has a museum showcasing manuscripts and other artifacts from the abbey of Mont Saint Michel, while Dol de Bretagne, with its ancient cathedral, is 15 kilometres to the west in Brittany. Dol additionally boasts several fine restaurants, and both Dol and Avranches have public indoor swimming pools. Sandy beaches (either between Avranches and Granville in Normandy or between Cancale and Saint Malo in Brittany) are a thirty-minute drive from the house, as is dramatic cliff-walking near Cancale, a town famed for its seafood. Saint Malo, with its old walled town and a large aquarium, is also a thirty-minute drive, as is the beautiful medieval town of Dinan and the seaside town of Dinard.

Views:There are gorgeous views from the cottage and garden over the Couesnon river plain to the south.

Ideally situated on the edge of a market town in Normandy near the border with Brittany, this self-catering holiday cottage offers lots to see and do. Mont Saint Michel - this famous abbey only a ten-minute drive from 'Les Petites Ondes' has attracted visitors to Normandy for centuries. Isolated on a granite island in a sheltered bay, this heritage site is also of particular environmental interest. The coast here has the highest high tides and the lowest low tides in all of Europe and you can literally see the tide change by observing the water in the Couesnon River, which enters the bay just west of the peninsula connecting Mont Saint Michel with the Norman mainland. Pontorson is lively Norman town, only a short walk from 'Les Petites Ondes', is located on the Couesnon River, which flows past the cottage to the south and into the Baie de Mont Saint Michel to the North. Pontorson holds a weekly open-air market on Wednesdays and a 'bio market' on Sunday mornings. Its ancient church, which dates back to the tenth century, hosts regular concerts throughout the year, and its helpful tourist office organises walks, depending on the tides, across the shifting sands to Mont Saint Michel-- a dramatic experience in any season. The closest beaches to 'Les Petites Ondes' are only half an hour's drive to the northeast (between Avranches and Granville) or half an hour to the west (between Cancale and Saint Malo)-- they are truly beautiful!

Rental notes: Short breaks as well as long-lets of one to three months are sometimes possible in low or mid season.

The cosy sitting and dining area offers space to share a meal or a glass of wine as well as to sit and chat or read or watch a television programme or a video or listen to music. The little 'entertainment centre' allows you to play CDs and DVDs as well as to receive satellite programmes (both radio and television from the UK and from France). There's a selection of videos as well as CDs and books on the shelves. The fully equipped kitchen allows you to do as much (or as little!) cooking as you like. There's all the equipment you might need to make your stay as comfortable as possible in this accommodation, including: a gas hob, a combination microwave and traditional oven, a refrigerator with a freezing compartment, a dishwasher, a washing machine, an electric kettle, an electric coffee-maker, an electric toaster and (of course) plates, glasses and silverware to serve six guests. The cosy bedroom contains a double bed, a closet and shelves, and good reading lights. Bed linen is included (as well as a baby cot if required). The mezzanine offers additional accommodation and includes two single beds, good reading lights and gorgeous views over the garden and countryside from the roof window. The bathroom has a WC, a bidet, a sink, a large tiled shower (with 'power shower' water pressure) and heated towel bars (with towels, which are included).
