PALAZZO MASSARUCCI is a stunning, pink-stone, rustic castle, forming the south wall of the charming village of Macerino, a 16th century village built on the foundations of a medieval fortress, perched on a hillside above Spoleto, Terni and Acquasparta. Comepletely rebuilt in 2000, with large north and south facing windows that invite perfumed cross breezes in summer, the castle also offers skylights, glass roof panels and terraces, that make it an unusually bright and cheery castle with extraordinary views and complete privacy. Palazzo Massarucci has been lovingly restored with an eye to COMFORT, CONVENIENCE, PLEASURE and PRIVACY. It boasts 9 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 3 double spa tubs, a sauna, a large private swimming pool and lawn and gardens that have stunning views of the Spoleto Valley, and the rugged forests, hills and valleys of the Massa Martana. The castle’s 500 year old stone walls, that reach a thickness of 1.5 meters (5 feet thick) on the ground floor, offer a cool and fresh interior. Legend has it that Lucrezia Borgia slept in Palazzo Massarucci. One can only imagine which of the six roaring fireplaces warmed her if it was winter. Lucrezia was the daughter of Rodrigo Borgia who became Pope Alexander Vl. She was infamously portrayed as a killer of husbands and lovers but history suggests that her brother, Ceasare, one of her lovers and possibly the father of the first of her eight children, was the actual killer.

Near to Spoleto, Assisi, Todi and other visited Umbrian towns this hilltop is secluded, quiet, romantic and convenient. It offers two neighborhood Restaurants famous for authentic Umbrian cuisine, La Fontana and La Castagnetta. La Fontana is just steps below the castle and also offers cocktails, wine or espresso in the bar. An adjacent property offers additional accommodations. The archaeological Roman site of Carsulae is a hike away and snow skiing is an hour away.

The castle is laid out on three floors. The top floor has four bedrooms and one bathroom with shower and bidet. One of the bedrooms has a fireplace and a queen size bed, another has three twins curtained for privacy, one has twins and the third has a queen size bed. This floor also has a large sitting room with foldout sofas and a kitchen. The middle floor, right wing has a large suite that includes a large bedroom with fire place and a queen size bed, a large bathroom with jetted tub, shower, double sinks and bidet and an anti room with a private bar and refrigerator. The left wing has a loft bedroom with a queen size bed and a fold down futon, the bathroom is down a short flight of stairs and has a shower and bidet. This floor also has the main grand salon with fireplace, the family room with fireplace, the dingroom with open grill and the main kitchen with grill, wood oven, oven, burners and dishwasher, four sinks and a pantry. The bottom floor, right wing has a large suite that includes a bathroom with shower, bidet and sauna, a large bedroom with sofa area and a queen size bed and a full kitchen with oven, burners and dishwasher. This room also has a dining area and sofa area. The bottom floor left wing has two large suites. One suite has a bathroom that includes jetted bathtub and spray bidet, a large bedroom with fireplace, a sofa area and a queen size bed. The other suite has a bathroom with jetted tub and bidet, the bedroom has a double size upper bunk and a twin bed below.

Outside Area:Our grounds are fully landscaped with lush lawns, climbing roses, jasmine that winds to the roof and giant lavender plants that invite butterflies throughout summer. Bulbs and perennials ensure early blooms of color.
