Ceret holiday gite rental - Spacious Gîte in foothills of the Pyrenees

Located an hour from Perpignan. Enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and the sea as you hike, cycle or horse ride through deserted country roads and tracks; relax and observe the abundant wildflowers, birds and animals or rediscover the ancient dolmens, abandoned miners' villages and mule tracks. The Gîte is ideal for families as well as small groups of friends wanting to experience life on an isolated farm in rural france. Relax by the pool, take a brisk walk to the nearest village, La Bastide, or explore the local area. The local roads are very popular with cyclists and the Tour de France passed through Perpignan last year. Must like animals as the Gîte is located on an organic sheep farm and Arabian horse stud. We also have several border collies and assorted cats. The Gîte: two double bedrooms and bathrooms, well equipped kitchen/living area, large sunny terrace with barbecue. Sofa bed in living area. The Gîte (100 sq m) can accommodate 6 people.

Views:The Gîte overlook the valley and there are views to the coast 40 km away.

Local interests: Horse riding is available in La Bastide; Walk to the Pic de Canigou - a days hike on the GR10. The Priory of Serrabonne is a 20 minute drive or a half a days hike away and is worth a visit; The ruins of the Chateau of Belpuig and the 11th century Chapel of the Trinity are located in nearby Prunet and Belpuig; Just outside the village of St Marsal there are three dolmens and various other historic sites; Day Trips: Weekly markets in Ceret, Prades, Perpignan and the other surrounding towns and villages; Museum of Modern Art, Ceret; Beaches at Argeles, Collioure, Canet Plage; Palais des Rois de Majorque, Perpignan; Spain - the border is one hour away by car. Visit the Dali museum in Figueres or the beach at Roses.

The Gîte Our rates are (the week Saturday pm to Saturday am): 1 May to 25 June: 400 Euros 26 June to 27 August: 650 Euros 25 Dec to 3 Jan 2011: 600 Euros Easter 2010: 450 Euros Out of Season 350 Euros We also do weekends out of season for 200 Euros for two nights.

The Gîte is approx 100sq metres and has two bedrooms (one has a double bed and the other two singles) and two bathrooms (one en-suite). The living area is large and airy, heated by a wood burning stove, with a well equipped kitchen. There is a sofa bed in the living area so you could sleep up to six. The kitchen overlooks a large sun drenched terrace with a bbq area.

Outside Area:The Gîte is next to the main farmhouse which is located in 400 hectares of steeply rising fields and forests. There are several tracks that crisscross the property and the GR10 is close by. The swimming pool is set into the hillside and overlooks the valley below. There are horses and sheep in the fields surrounding the farm.
